Lincoln women fall to Emporia State | Jefferson City News-Tribune

The Lincoln women's basketball team lost its ninth straight game Saturday despite a career-high 28 points from Biance Stocks.

The Blue Tigers dropped a 73-62 decision against former MIAA foe Emporia State at Jason Gym.

Emporia State never trailed in the contest and jumped out to a 9-0 lead before extending it to 15-4.

Lincoln was able to close the first quarter strong and trailed 19-12 headed to the second.

The Blue Tigers got within two points at 26-24 halfway through the quarter after a Hanne Nybo jumper, but the Hornets answered with another 9-0 run to extend the lead back to double digits.

Emporia State led 37-30 at the half but was held scoreless for the first four-plus minutes of the third, allowing Lincoln to get within one point at 37-36 after an Emma Wolken 3-pointer.

The Hornets scored the next four points to extend the lead and led by as many as 10 twice in the quarter, the last coming after a Macy Smith 3 sent the game to the fourth with a score of 56-46.

Smith knocked down another 3 to open the fourth to take the biggest lead of the night at 13 points, and Lincoln was never able to get within seven points for the rest of the game.

Stocks' 28 points topped all scorers in the game and she finished 9-of-17 from the field and 5-of-11 from 3. Nybo finished with 11 points and Ayreona Carter added 10 for the Blue Tigers.

Makenzie McDaniel paced Emporia State (6-5) with 22 points and Katie Horyna added 15.

Lincoln (1-9) will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 3 at Quincy.
