The NCAA transfer portal has been open for more than a week, and several teams have been hit hard by a mass exodus of players.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are one of them with 15 players from this year's 9-3 team having entered the portal, six of which - receiver Kobe Prentice (Baylor), offensive tackle Naquil Betrand (Syracuse), defensive tackle Jehiem Oatis (Colorado), linebacker Keanu Koht (Vanderbilt), cornerback DeVonta Smith (Notre Dame) and safety Jahlil Hurley (Kansas) - have already found new teams.
Another Alabama player joined them on Tuesday evening when former four-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan announced he was committing to Boston College. He's the No. 22-ranked QB in the portal, per On3.
His departure coupled with Jalen Milroe's expected decision to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft leaves Alabama with Austin Mack, Ty Simpson and incoming five-star freshman Keelon Russell to compete for the starting job next season.
The 16th-ranked QB and the No. 159 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, Lonergan has attempted just eight passes in two seasons in Tuscaloosa. He has just 35 yards passing and 21 yards rushing.
Lonergan will be reunited with Boston College offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who was Alabama's OC two seasons ago during Lonergan's freshman season.
Boston College lost starter Thomas Castellanos, who threw for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions this season, to Florida State last week.
The Eagles have six other QBs on its roster - juniors Jack Brandon and Grayson James, sophomores Peter Delaportas and Shane Hanafin, and freshmen Jonathan Montague Jr. and Jacobe Robinson.
