LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - The Christmas season is one for gift-giving and heartwarming stories. One such story just can be found in Lafayette, Louisiana, just days before Christmas itself.
A local nursing student who is working her way through school as a waitress at Deano's on Bertrand found herself on the receiving end of a local group's generosity, and her work shift ended with a gift to help her, her child, and her future career.
A group of patrons at Deano's reached out to Deano's owner Tim Metcalf, asking which of his workers was most deserving of a major financial boost. Metcalf asked his managing staff to come up with a name, and they chose Brehanna Dauzart.
Metcalf called the act of generosity "life-changing" for the server.
Brehanna Dauzart is a single mom to her two-year-old son, Grayson, and has faced more challenges in her young life than most, shouldering the full responsibility of raising her son alone. Despite dealing with personal hardships and financial struggles, she remains resilient, working tirelessly to provide for Grayson and ensure he has a bright future.
This year, Brehanna accomplished a major milestone: securing an apartment for herself and her son. She recently confided in coworkers about her wish to make Christmas extra special for Grayson, even as she juggles work, bills, and school expenses. Touched by her dedication and struggles, her coworkers surprised her by decorating her apartment for Christmas while she was at work. The gesture left Brehanna overwhelmed with gratitude, describing it as the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her.
In addition to being a waitress, Brehanna is also a nursing student at South Louisiana Community College (SoLACC), balancing her academic goals with the demands of single motherhood. She's determined to give Grayson the love, traditions, and joy he deserves, even under the weight of financial strain.
