Police responded to the Pinecrest REI Co-op shop at 4:11 p.m. Dec. 8 for a theft report, learning that four people came into the store and left with stolen items in their backpacks.
The manager said that one of the men dropped one of their tote bags inside the store as he was leaving and staff recovered it, finding multiple jackets and other store merchandise valued at $2,378 stuffed inside.
Management was still compiling a list of missing items, but as it stood, the value came to about $2,220 so far. Police noted that the dropped green and red tote bag was lined with a thick Faraday material, used to block electromagnetic signals in store anti-theft sensors.
The manager gave some descriptions of the suspects and said they left in a black SUV. Checking investigative tools, police were able to locate the getaway car, a Ford Explorer with an Illinois plate registered to a Chicago man as the investigation continued.
Trespassing: Orange Place
Police were called to the Extended Stay America South on Dec. 12 concerning a woman reportedly armed with a knife who was trying to enter hotel rooms.
She was found and arrested after the manager explained that the suspect, who was not a guest, had entered the lobby, where she picked up expired room key cards from a drop-off box.
At that time, the manager saw two large knives on her person before losing sight of her. He asked officers to check vacant rooms, which they did, eventually finding her in a third-floor suite. She said she had nowhere to go.
Officers cited her for criminal trespassing and with no knives found, gave her a courtesy ride to an address in East Cleveland.
Hit confirmation, warrant served (felony): Park Avenue
Police were alerted around 1 p.m. Dec. 17 to a Hyundai station wagon traveling through town whose owner had an active felony warrant with Cleveland police.
They found the car unoccupied, then saw a man matching the description come out of the BIBIBOP Asian grill and get in the driver's seat.
Officers converged on the car and detained the man without incident. He was taken to the Solon jail until Cleveland police could pick him up there.
Damage to property: Miles Road
Police responded to the Swedish Solutions on the evening of Dec. 13 where they found a wooden fence knocked down between the foreign model mechanic's shop and the adjacent Shell gas station.
The caller, who lives in an attached home, discovered the damage around 6:30 p.m. Using investigative tools, police found that about one hour earlier, a Chevrolet Equinox belonging to a Solon man had backed into the fence and knocked it down.
Police tried calling the driver with no luck and when they went to his home he said he only recalled skipping the curb at the time, providing officers with his insurance information if the property owners wanted it fixed.
