Approximately 22 months ago, LeBron James passed Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time leading career scorer. He entered Thursday's game against the Sacramento Kings with 41,021 career regular season points, which is simply insane.
Abdul-Jabbar was once the king of not only career scoring but also NBA longevity. He played 20 seasons in an era where doing so was thought to be impossible, and he won the NBA Finals MVP award at age 38, which may be an even more impossible feat.
But James has lapped him in the longevity department over the last couple of seasons. In fact, on Thursday, James surpassed Abdul-Jabbar in another key NBA statistical category: career regular-season minutes played.
The 39-year-old James was already the league's all-time career leader in combined regular-season and playoff minutes, as the playoffs were a bit shorter during Abdul-Jabbar's career. But now, the "kid from Akron, Ohio" has placed yet another feather in his cap.
