WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man was arrested for hitting another vehicle while under the influence.
According to WPD, a WPD unit was in the area of North 6th Street and Red Cross Street when he noticed a vehicle tailgating him without their headlights on early Monday morning.
He was eventually able to get behind the vehicle, and before having time to activate his emergency lights, the officer witnessed the suspect strike another vehicle. A strong odor of alcohol was coming from inside of the automobile, and the driver initially resisted arrest.
WPD officers were able to take Kirk Henning, 58, into custody. He has been charged with DWI, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, resist/delay/obstruct, and hit/run fail stop-property damage. Officers also located evidence that Henning had struck another vehicle prior to the collision that occurred on Red Cross Street.
He is being held under a $5,000 secured bond at the NHSO Detention Center.
