Letter to the editor: Chaos for Christmas

Letter to the editor: Chaos for Christmas

The federal government is on track to reach the debt ceiling in January. Trump said he'd work with Democrats to end it.

Folks, you're getting the preview of the second and much more disastrous Trump presidency.

Yes, in the first one more than a million Americans died of COVID-19 after Trump's self-centered mismanagement of proven prevention for the virus. Hard to beat that, you say. Well, we'll see. Trump is advancing vaccine denier Robert Kennedy for Secretary of Health and Human Services and the bird flu and other diseases still exist.

And on top of diseases, Trump is threatening chaos, nominating completely ill-prepared and subservient cabinet members, releasing thousands of violent criminals into the population, imprisoning former members of Congress for doing their job, deporting millions of undocumented workers, writing massive new taxes in the form of tariffs, and a two trillion dollar trimming of the budget that will abruptly stop the flow of federal money into the economic system. With continued and new tax cuts for the corporations and the super rich we now have a government of the billionaires, by the billionaires, and for the billionaires. Where the common man will get the cash to pay off the new home or vehicle remains to be addressed.

With a month to go before he is even inaugurated, he has demanded the House of Representatives reject the bipartisan measure that would keep the government operating through the holiday season. Folks, the Grinch has arrived thanks to the millions who had no problem voting for a narcissistic sociopath.

It may be that yesterday's market break was the start of something big. Are we seeing a flight of capital out of the impending whirlwind? As a businessman, even a failed one as his many bankruptcies demonstrate, Trump should know the market hates chaotic uncertainty, something he and his unelected VP, Elon Musk, are already delivering by the truckload.

Merry Christmas!
