WEAUBLEAU -- Playing a second state-ranked matchup in less than 24 hours, the St. Elizabeth Hornets were edged 54-51 by the Wheatland Mules in Saturday's OCHC Shootout at Weaubleau High School.
St. Elizabeth, ranked No. 7 in Class 1, jumped out to a 19-10 lead after one quarter. Wheatland (7-1), ranked No. 6 in Class 1, trimmed its deficit to 27-25 by halftime and outscored the Hornets 18-10 in the third quarter to take a 43-37 lead.
Gavin Williams led the Hornets with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Heckemeyer also reached double figures with 10 points.
St. Elizabeth (6-4) hosts Jamestown on Jan. 2 in a matchup of Class 1 District 9 foes.
