Broncos elevate Reese Taylor, Nick Gargiulo from practice squad to face Colts

Reese Taylor is in line to make his NFL debut.

The Broncos on Saturday elevated the cornerback from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts at Empower Field at Mile High.

Reese is on Denver's practice squad for a second straight season after being undrafted in 2023 out of Purdue. He had originally been signed by the Kansas City Chiefs before being let go.

The Broncos also elevated rookie offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo from the practice squad for his third straight elevation but he is expected to be inactive for the third straight time. The Broncos, as The Denver Gazette has reported, are rewarding Gargiulo, a seventh-round pick, for his strong play in practice. So Gargiulo, with the NFL maximum being three elevations, gets three full-game checks this season.

Taylor is expected to play Sunday on special teams and also could provide depth at nickel back. Denver's primary nickel back is Ja'Quan McMillian. It remains to be seen if McMillian could get some work at outside cornerback due to Riley Moss being out with a knee injury for a second straight game.

Moss was hurt Nov. 24 at Las Vegas and sat out Dec. 2 against Cleveland before Denver had a bye week. He was replaced against the Browns by Levi Wallace, who said he had the "worst" game of his seven-year NFL career.

With Wallace having struggled, it remains to be seen how the Broncos will handle snap counts to replace Moss against the Colts. Other candidates to play include rookie Kris Abrams-Draine and Damarri Mathis.
