Acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director of The Revenant and Birdman, reportedly offered Anurag Kashyap a role in his next movie. This happened after Iñárritu saw Kashyap in the Tamil film Maharaja. The director of Maharaja, Nithilian Swaminathan, shared this news at an award show in Chennai. It's also rumored that Iñárritu's new film will star Tom Cruise.
At the Galatta Nakshatra Awards in Chennai, Swaminathan talked about how well his movie Maharaja did. He said it was successful at the China box office. He also mentioned that Iñárritu had seen the film. Swaminathan said, "I am a huge fan of Anurag Sir. Recently, I went to Mumbai to attend his [Anurag Kashyap] daughter's wedding. At that time, he said that Iñárritu offered him a role in his film only because of Maharaja. When I heard it at first, I didn't know how to react. I felt happy. I love him."

However, it's unclear if Kashyap has signed the film with Iñárritu. Kashyap is yet to share a clarification regarding the same. Meanwhile, Maharaja is an action thriller starring Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, and Sachana Namidass in lead roles. The film, which deals with sexual abuse and violence, became a blockbuster across the world. The film also created history on Netflix by securing the title of most-watched Indian movie.
After Maharaja's massive success worldwide, the makers of the film released in Chinese theatres and earned over Rs. 100 crore. It is still having a great run in theatres. On Netflix, the film's premise reads, "A barber seeks vengeance after his home is burglarized, cryptically telling police his 'Lakshmi' has been taken, leaving them uncertain if it's a person or object. His quest to recover the elusive 'lakshmi' unfolds."
