ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Civil Air Patrol Southeastern Minnesota Composite Squadron laid wreaths at Oakwood and Cavalry Cemetery. It was in partnership with the non-profit Wreaths Across America. Every year in December across the U.S. volunteers lay wreaths as part of the campaign.
The squadron laid around 450 wreaths following a short ceremony at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial. It was supposed to happen on Dec.14 but got pushed to Dec.21 due to weather conditions.
Cadet Deputy Commander Cooper Hull has been taking part in the wreath laying for four years. He says honoring veterans around Christmas is the least they can do.
"I think it's one of the most important things that we recognize it nationally and one of the best ways we can do it is just going out and to the local cemeteries and placing the wreaths on the graves because it's just a great way of recognizing what they did for us," said Hull.
More than 4600 locations across the U.S. participate in Wreaths Across America.
