Kyle Teel was having a normal afternoon on the day he was ultimately traded by the Boston Red Sox. He was on his way to go train when his phone rang.
"And pretty much they let me know I got traded," Teel said during an appearance on 670 The Score's "Bernstein & Harris Show." And at first, it was a complete shock, just because I didn't see it coming. And as it settled in, I would say the main emotions I felt was just being surprised and being excited for this opportunity."
Teel was one of four prospects shipped to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Garrett Crochet. The catching prospect was regarded as Boston's catcher of the future and was on track to make his Major League Baseball debut in the near future after getting promoted to Triple-A Worcester last year. He slashed .255/.374/.343 with two home runs, three doubles and 18 RBI in 28 games with the WooSox.
While Teel, who was part of the Red Sox' "Big Three" with Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony, won't play for the Red Sox, he's focused on making an impact in Chicago.
"I am going in excited and I have goals, big goals," he said. "So I'm really excited to come in and help create a winning culture and that's where my mind's at right now."
The White Sox are coming off a 121-loss season -- setting a new MLB record for most losses in the season, previously held by the 1962 New York Mets. It's unclear if Teel will start the 2025 season with the White Sox, but he'll continue to develop as he looks to become a prominent part of Chicago's future.
