Popular sushi restaurant opens 2nd location in Birmingham area

Agus Suyasa, the proprietor of the Umami restaurants in Birmingham and Trussville, has opened Nori Hibachi, his new concept located in Hoover.

Suyasa is the brother of Putu Arsana, the co-owner of the Umami location in Birmingham, and the owner of Nori Thai and Sushi on Highway 280.

While Suyasa's restaurant in Hoover shares the "Nori" name and brand, as well as a similar menu, his iteration centers on the art of Hibachi cooking where the chef prepares the meal in front of the diners.

"A lot of hibachi restaurants now set up the food and go, but we will bring back the traditional style -- the chef entertains the customer and puts on a good show," Suyasa told the Birmingham Business Journal.

In addition to hibachi, the restaurant will feature ramen, sushi and sashimi, and Thai dishes.

Suyasa is also the owner of Asian Bistro, the Asian-fusion late-night eatery and lounge located in the entryway of the Marble Ring cocktail bar.
