RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) -- At one time it was a popular anchor store at Richmond Town Square, but in just days it will face the wrecking ball.

Primary demolition of the former Sears building at 691 Richmond Road is set to begin Tuesday, Dec. 17, according to California-based company DealPoint Merrill which will develop the site.

Sears is the last building standing that was part of the once thriving Richmond Town Square shopping mall. Like many others across the country it fell on hard times and closed its doors.

The demolition of the Sears building will start at 8 a.m. It's not clear how long it will take.

According to DealPoint Merrill, the demolition will make way for the first phase of living spaces to be constructed within the new $450 million development called Belle Oaks Marketplace.

Described a modern lifestyle center, Belle Oaks Marketplace will feature apartments, stores and restaurants.
