Susan Dean McMurphy, 69, of Long Branch, N.J., died on Jan. 9, 2025, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch following a long illness.
Susan was born in Medford, Mass., on April 2, 1955, to the late Dr. Charles and Claire (Cote) McMurphy and moved to Keene at the age of six. She graduated from Keene High School in 1973 and received her bachelor of science from Wagner College in 1977.
Susan was a long-time sports enthusiast and served as a trainer for the Wagner Ice Hockey team. Upon graduation, Susan put her RN training to use at Monmouth Medical. She never stopped learning new skills in nursing and ended her career as the office manager and chief RN in a high-risk OB/GYN office.
Susan was predeceased by her parents; and her sisters, Stacey Forand and Meghan McMurphy.
Susan is survived by her siblings: Sarah McMurphy of Keene; Marcia Bassett (Tim) of Easthampton, Mass.; and Marc McMurphy (Michele) of Henniker; her uncle, Edward McMurphy; her aunts, Gloria Wood and Gail Cote; several nieces and nephews: Alex and Kristen Forand and their sons, Grant and Ryan; Bryan and Alyssa Forand and their daughter, Molly; Luke and Jessica Forand and their son Ronan; Mac McMurphy, Katie McMurphy and Meg McMurphy; and her partner, Travis Hamilton, and their son, Otto. She was a much-loved sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.
A memorial gathering will be on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, from 2 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 3:30 p.m. at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., Long Branch, N.J. Internment in Keene will be some time in the spring.
