Sandra Lyn "Sandi" Jones
LITCHFIELD - With heavy hearts but immense gratitude for the joy she brought to our lives, we announce the passing of Sandra Lyn "Sandi" Jones. Born on Feb. 4, 1945, in New Braunfels, Texas, Sandra lived a life filled with love, creativity, and service to others. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sandra dedicated much of her professional life to the State of Maine's Department of Environmental Protection as a water analyst. Her attention to detail and steadfast commitment earned the respect of her colleagues, but it was her life outside of work that truly showcased her heart and spirit. Sandra was a talented quilter, pouring her creativity and love into every stitch. She shared this passion with her quilting groups, the Tacoma Lakes Quilters and Back Road Quilters.
Sandra also found joy in gardening, tending to her flowers with the same care and devotion she gave to her family and friends. Her love of nature extended to the wild birds she kept well fed, and in return they brought her immense happiness and comfort over the years.
Sandra had a kind and compassionate heart. She served the community by devoting time and energy to the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, and the Litchfield Food Bank. She was also a devoted member of Litchfield Plains Baptist Church, where she found joy and purpose in her faith and among her church family. She embodied Proverbs 31:20: "She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy."
Sandra's greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Jones and fiancé Joanne Desjardins and Donald Jones and wife Karin Jones; grandchildren, Christopher and wife Meghan, Kayla and husband Nicholas, Sarah and husband Cameron, Meghan, Dylan, Kaitlynn, Kaiden, and Kamden; great-grandchildren, Beau, Julian, Knox, Riley, Ellie, and Odin; and brother, Bruce York and wife Francine York.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Alice (Cunningham) York, and her husband, Harry Wayne Jones.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at the Augusta Center for Health & Rehabilitation for their compassionate care and support during Sandra's time with them, especially in her final days. We would particularly like to recognize Keith Smith, Director of Life Enrichment, and Sandra's roommate and dear friend, Mary-Lou Hastings, for the joy they brought to her life.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Litchfield Plains Baptist Church, 56 Plains Road, Litchfield. A graveside committal service will follow at Litchfield Plains Cemetery.
We invite all who knew Sandra to share your memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page at http://www.staplesfuneralhome.com. Your remembrance will help us honor her remarkable life and keep her memory alive for generations to come.
Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Litchfield Food Bank, an organization close to Sandra's heart, in her memory.
