Details surrounding three of Lenovo's upcoming new Legion GO handheld gaming PCs have just leaked. Lenovo is set to announce a new wave of Legion GO models at CES 2025, and the leaked information alludes to these handhelds being quite capable on the hardware front.
The Lenovo Legion GO was released in September 2023 as a competitor to Valve's Steam Deck and Asus' ROG Ally. Where the latter handhelds sported a more traditional form factor, the Lenovo Legion GO differentiated itself with Nintendo Switch-esque detachable controllers and a comparatively huge 8.8-inch 144Hz QHD+ display. Lenovo also equipped the Legion GO with AMD's powerful Z1 Extreme chipset to match the Asus ROG Ally on the performance front. With AMD gearing up to announce its Z2 Extreme chipset, though, it seems Lenovo has an updated lineup of Legion GO handhelds to go along with it.

Now, a recent report from VideoCardz reveals some technical specs for the Lenovo Legion GO S, as well as preliminary details on two more Legion GO handhelds. The Lenovo Legion GO S will supposedly sport AMD's Ryzen Z2 Go chipset comprised of an 8-core Zen 3 CPU and a Radeon 800M RDNA 2 GPU, which can be opted with 16GB/32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 512GB/1TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD.

The "Go" moniker suggests that this Ryzen Z2 version will be less powerful than the top-of-the-line Extreme variant, which falls in line with the expected affordability of the Legion GO S. The leaked renders also show that the Legion GO S will bin the current Legion GO's detachable joysticks for a more traditional handheld form factor and sport a "Glacier White" colorway. The Lenovo Legion GO S is said to feature an 8-inch 1920x1200 120Hz LED display with up to 500 nits of brightness and a claimed 100% sRGB color accuracy. As far as the price point goes, the Lenovo Legion GO S is expected to cost around €600 (roughly $625).
Lenovo May Offer The First Third-Party Device with SteamOS Support
Alongside the Legion GO S, Lenovo is alleged to reveal the Legion GO S Steam Edition and the Legion GO 2. The latter is a more direct successor to the current Lenovo Legion GO and will come equipped with the AMD Z2 Extreme chipset for maximum performance, as well as an 8.8-inch 2560x1600 OLED display. The Legion GO S Steam Edition is more interesting, because as the name suggests, it might be the first third-party device to ship with the Steam Deck's SteamOS operating system instead of Windows 11.
Valve has been working on third-party device integration for SteamOS for a long time, and it seems those efforts may finally come to fruition with the announcement of Lenovo's new Legion GO lineup at CES 2025 next month. It should also be interesting to see how the AMD Ryzen Z2 chips stack up against the highly performant Intel Core Ultra 285V processor in MSI's newly-launched Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ gaming handhelds.

The PC gaming handheld boasts one of the most powerful specs seen in a handheld device, but that comes at the price of battery life. Ultimately, any Windows-based handheld has its advantages and risks. However, Lenovo has done well to give its device enough reasons to intrigue handheld-leaning gamers.
