KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI - Charges are pending against a man who allegedly assaulted a gas station employee in an early morning attack, Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputies said.
Police responded to a 2:52 a.m. report of an assault Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Shell gas Station, 10305 Miller Drive, in Comstock Township.
At the scene, police learned the armed suspect entered the store and assaulted an employee with the tire iron. The suspect - a 37-year-old St. Clair Shores man - then took several items from behind the counter and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Police said the employee was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
A description of the suspect, and his vehicle, was promptly broadcasted to surrounding counties.
Calhoun County sheriff's deputies located the suspect vehicle on I-69, just south of I-94. The suspect was apprehended by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and lodged in jail.
A Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy responded to the apprehension scene and seized the involved weapon, and stolen property from inside of the man's vehicle.
