WATCH: Winter Weather Advisory in the Mountains

SUNDAY Freezing drizzle, freezing rain, sleet, and a chance for snow mixing to rain develops in the mountains by midnight on Saturday and continues through about noon along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Western Foothills of North Carolina and the Appalachian Mountains into Virginia. Travel Impacts Expected Slippery road conditions may develop on elevated surfaces as temperatures remain below freezing Sunday morning in the mountains. Light scattered drizzle and a few scattered showers are possible early Sunday in the Triad, but better rain chances develop late afternoon. Please consider adjusting your travel plans in the Piedmont Triad as well overnight through 10 a.m. There is a risk of spotty black ice developing on bridges, exits, and on-ramps early Sunday through 10 a.m. Snow and sleet totals are expected to be less than one inch in the Winter Weather Advisory areas. Freezing rain also may accumulate on trees up to one tenth of an inch with isolated higher totals approaching two tenths of one inch.
